Jorge Ben is the self-titled sixth studio album by Brazilian singer-songwriter and guitarist Jorge Ben. It was released in November 1969 by Philips Records. The album was his first recording for a major label since 1965 when his first stint with Philips ended due to creative differences. Ben recorded the album alongside producer Manoel Barenbein, the vocal/percussion band Trio Mocotó, and an orchestral section arranged by José Briamonte and Rogério Duprat

Mon identité musicale s'est construite dans les années 70/80 via un savant cocktail fait d'un tiers de Disco, d'un tiers de Hard-Rock et d'un tiers de New Wave/Punk-Rock. J'ai le souvenir dans les années 80 d'avoir été envouté par l'enchaînement musical des trois titres "Taj Mahal / Filho Maravilha / País Tropical" (Dádiva - 1983), un matériel Dance Pop Disco peut être à l'origine de ma passion pour la musique brésilienne. Tropical (1976) est le quinzième album de Jorge Ben Jor, un mélange "musclé" d'inédits et de reprises réarrangées comme "Taj Mahal" e "País tropical". L'ouverture à des arrangements plus Pop, plus occidentaux, préfigure ses futurs travaux orientés vers la World-Dance stéréotypée des années 1980. A l'origine Tropical était destiné au marché hors Brésil et il ne sera distribué dans ce pays qu'en 1977. Un très bel album de Jorge Ben Jor qui confirme son immense talent et sa capacité à s'adapter à l'air du temps en redonnant intelligemment un nouveau souffle à de "vieux" airs maintes fois réécoutés
