Bowery Electric's Lushlife is a piece of work that's sumptuous in its minimalism. As with their previous album, Beat, the collective elements cut a forlorn musical figure yet still produce melodies that are surprisingly bright in their lullaby tone. The first track, "Floating World," opens with rainfall and is slowly overtaken by a lithe hip-hop beat that continues unbroken, melting perfectly into the next song

Throughout the 90's, the Trip-Hop genre hit it's peak and came to the surface of the music world. Many great Trip-Hop artists released albums during this time, but possibly the best one of them all in my opinion waited till early, 2000 to be released... and that album is right here. Bowery Electric also released 2 previous albums in the 90's, although, they were more shoegaze oriented. "Beat" was also an amazing album that combined Trip-Hop and Shoegaze together, but "Lushlife" is without a doubt the masterpiece of their catalog. Production wise, the album isn't that complicated to digest. It's arrangements are actually quite simple, which is what makes it so appealing and easily accessible. Almost every track contains simple, yet heavy repeated programmed drum-loops, on top of very moving, sometimes emotional, violin synths. Along with this excellent music, the second best part is Martha Schwendener's vocals, which fit this Trip-Hop setting excellently. All 10 tracks here though are very unique, and easy winners to the ears. I would go far as to say it is definitely not only Bowery Electric's best album, but all together one of the Trip-Hop genre's most outstanding, best albums. Not only does it showcase Trip-Hop's most unique arrangements and beats, but it also showcases a dose of strong emotional movement that other Trip-Hop albums have lacked. A rare find, which was made to impress more on the line of emotional movement more so than just style. I highly recommend anyone who's looking to discover a good modern Trip-Hop album that contains less weird effects and turntables, and more emotional justification to definitely start their search with "Lushlife" / Bowery Electric.RATING- 10 / 10---------------------------------------------Track Picks:Floating WorldLushlifeSoul CityFreedom FighterPassages---------------------------------------------(ALBUM PICK)(#1 TRIP-HOP GENRE ALBUM PICK)---------------------------------------------
