Only for completionists (0%). Obviously, from the title and the lineup, this is a disk of primarily Brazilian jazz. As such, it's a nice album, well played by Larry Coryell, Billy Cobham, Donald Harrison, and a group of talented Brazilian musicians. Larry Coryell another album from 90-s, this time - recorded in Brazil and played with mostly Brazilian musicians (Billy Cobham is on board though). Nineties are far not the best period in Coryell music for fusion fans. His music long before turned to smooth jazz and soft world fusion. This album is not much different.
In 1966, he made a startling recorded debut on Hamilton's The Dealer album, where his blues and rock ideas came to the fore, and that year, he also played with a proto-jazz-rock band, the Free Spirits. Coryell's name spread even further in 1967-68 when he played with Gary Burton's combo, and he was one of the most prominent solo voices on Herbie Mann's popular Memphis Underground album (recorded in 1968).
This album reminds of a timeless Bahia, Salvador where sandy beaches and mulattos and cervejinhas and sun is eternal. You can feel these at your home, wherever you are, just by listening and occasionally gazing the album cover. Two years before the release of Paul Simon's GRACELAND and the accompanying increase in awareness of world music, Larry Coryell travelled to Brazil and created this low-key recording in Brazil, which features many native vocalist Dori Caymmi who is featured on several cuts. Coryell is backed by a 9-piece band, including drummer Billy Cobham (who worked with Miles Davis and John McLaughlin) and saxophonist Donald Harrison, who should have gotten co-billing on this CD in that he has has many solos as Coryell himself.
