While every other band in the '80s were trying to be ahead of their time, the Stompers were proud to be of their time, playing a Springsteen-ish brand of good-time rock with it's roots stuck proudly in the '50s and '60s. Rock, Jump and Holler," "Coast to Coast," "Leave It in Motion," and "First Kiss" could've been cover versions of rock classics, proving that Baglio knew how to write songs that were fresh and new yet filled with a pleasing familiarity.

Dave Van Ronk and the Ragtime Jug Stompers is an album featuring Dave Van Ronk playing with a jug band. From The Mayor of MacDougal Street: "As for the jug band, that came about more or less by accident. One weekend Max Gordon, the owner of the Village Vanguard, was in Cambridge for some reason, and he walked by the Club 47 and saw this huge line of people waiting to get in to see the Jim Kweskin Jug Band

The Stompers story begins in the fall of 1977 when friends Sal Baglio and Mark Cuccinello decided to start a band. Stephen Gilligan and Dave Friedman, the only people to respond to an index card posted on a music store bulletin board seeking musicians, arrived a short time later. On November 7, 1977, the musical neophytes played their first gig in Beverly, Mass.
