A career retrospective, Time Capsule: Songs for a Future Generation, appeared in 1998 along with two remixed maxi-singles "Summer of Love '98" and "Hallucinating Pluto". A major tour (with co-headliners the Pretenders) to promote the collection took place. Debbie", another single from the album (a tribute to Blondie's Debbie Harry), placed 35 on Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks. In 1999, they recorded a parody of "Love Shack" called "Glove Slap" for an episode of The Simpsons.

Their self-titled first album The B-52’s was released to critical acclaim in 1979, spawning the Canadian chart-topping hit Rock Lobster, which was also successful in Australia, New Zealand, the US and the UK. It was followed by Wild Planet in 1980 which spawned another minor US hit with Private Idaho. Whammy! followed in 1983, giving the band a third minor US hit with Legal Tender. Their fourth album, Bouncing off the Satellites, was released in 1986 after Ricky Wilson’s death. Their sixth album Good Stuff came out in 1992, notably lacking Cindy Wilson, who took a break from the band and was temporarily replaced by Julee Cruise.

"FLIP YER WIG!"THE B-52's-TIME CAPSULE/SONGS FOR A FUTURE GENERATION: Athens' quirky, smirky, herky-jerky B-52's mind-melded shards of funky DICK DALE guitar, B movie sound bites and surreal subject matter (to say nuthin' of Day-Glo attire and those incredible bouffant wigs) for a sci-fi-riffic party-mix no listener could mistake for regular radio fodder. Kooky kitsch klassix including ROCK LOBSTER, PRIVATE IDAHO and LOVE SHACK are every bit as ear-resistible as their titles suggest, awash in FRED SCHNEIDER's deadpan delivery and the giddy girl group harmonies of CINDY WILSON and KATE PIERSON. TIME CAPSULE is a thorough single disc collage of their long career, even if a few eternal faves missed the final cut...GOOD STUFF and IS THAT YOU MODEAN? may be catchy newer tracks, but hardly as essential or demented as DANCE THIS MESS AROUND, DEVIL IN MY CAR and 6060-842. No one in their right mind would wanna miss out on these pop culture-splattered pit stops from their first two groundbreaking albums...not that any BEE-FIVE-TWO fan would ever admit to being in their "right mind".RATING: FOUR BEEHIVES
