Musik in Deutschland 1950-2000 Vol 168/Various.

It has flown under the radar of most of the English-speaking world, though RCA was obviously aiming at the German market - the releases are well-documented, and texts are included, but everything is in German only. The orchestral and choral performances are overall effective - in most excerpts the various conductors seem to choose approaches emphasizing momentum over refinement, and that's fine by me. Though not all the music here is equally successful the program as a whole is a hugely appealing one (and the selections by Glanert and Eggert magnificently exciting), and this disc should be something of a must for anyone interested in contemporary music.
