1973 Live - Milky Way originally received a limited CD release back in 1993, and the source of the recording is a 1973 show in Kyoto that predated by five years the formation of Haino’s band Fushitsusha, as well as his first solo studio album, which didn’t come until a whopping eight years later in the form of Watashi dake?. Retrospectively, it’s kind of a ridiculous to think that Milky Way ’s 48-minutes of unceasing guitar-less drone happened at a time when people thought Led Zeppelin were innovative. More about: Keiji Haino.

Their young guitarist, Keiji Haino penned the eastern mass Ama No Gawa - Milky Way (1973). Then, inspired by free-jazz master Takayanagi Masayuki, Haino formed Fushitsusha in 1978 to play improvised psychedelic jams. Their beginnings are documented on 1978 (PSF, 2003), which collects two 1978 live tracks.
