While it has its slower moments, it also picks up too, much more than most ECM albums today do. Some of the tunes almost rock at times. What most jazz outside of ECM lacks is the variety of texture in the music, and with the four musicians present on this album you should know to expect texture and colour.

Jan Garbarek's 1983 release, WAYFARER, is characterized by ethereal soundscapes, spacious ensemble playing, and post-Coltrane licks combined with Nordic folk music. Featuring the gifted, idiosyncratic guitarist Bill Frisell and longtime associate Eberhard Weber on bass, this album bears a distinct resemblance to Garbarek's PATHS, PRINTS, which was released only a couple of years earlier. The major difference between the two albums is the presence of Michael DiPasqua on drums, rather than John Christensen.

It was released in 1983 on the ECM label. Tracklist: 01. Gesture 02. Wayfarer 03. Gentle 04. Pendulum 05. Spor 06. Singsong.
