He was acclaimed for his virtuoso technique, his tone color, and the excitement engendered by his playing. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest pianists of all time.
The most famous pianist of the twentieth century, his name known to the proverbial man on the street the world over, Vladimir Samoylovich Horowitz (1903–1989) was born in 1903 in Kiev. After the overwhelming success of Vladimir Horowitz live at Carnegie Hall, Sony Classical presents Vladimir Horowitz: The Unreleased Live Recordings. Philadelphia, Boston and beyond. Jump ahead to a 1976 recital in Pasadena and you'll hear the best Au bord d'une source ever from Horowitz; pure magic, with no added pyrotechnics to juice things up. That same concert features an unusual encore, the third movement of the B-flat minor sonata of Rachmaninoff - not the "Acrobat" of the Picasso hanging in the Horowitz living room, but better, deeper, richer sounding than ever before.
