The Hawk Relaxes is an album by saxophonist Coleman Hawkins which was recorded in 1961 and released on the Moodsville label. The Hawk Relaxes is one of his best latter period efforts". I'll Never Be The Same" (Gus Kahn, Matty Malneck, Frank Signorelli) - 6:11.

It is said that one grows wiser and mellower with age, as proven by this recording from Coleman Hawkins that is a successful follow-up to his previous Moodsville album At Ease. There is a difference, as Kenny Burrell joins the legendary tenor saxophonist in this quintet setting, with no threat of upstaging or even a hint of any real showcasing of the guitarist's then developing laid-back side. Underrated Ronnell Bright is on the piano, and also proves a veritable equal to Hawkins even more than Burrell.

Recorded at Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, NJ; February 28, 1961.

Like a fine wine, Coleman Hawkins proves on The Hawk Relaxes that good things only get better with age. Joined by six-string maestro Kenny Burrell, the legendary tenor saxophonist grooves in a mellow mood in this quintet setting alongside pianist Ronnell Bright, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Andrew Cyrille. Recorded by the inimitable Rudy Van Gelder, this classic jazz album has now been newly reissued on VINYL and is a must-have for both the casual fan and the hard-core jazz aficionado.
