Exclusively for Prime members. Of the rest, many are workaday, but I keep hoping, and RCA keeps reissuing. Since this Bruckner Sixth, first issued in 1991, derives from a live performance in Hamburg in 1988, it promises to catch Wand at his liveliest. In the Gramophone, the redoubtable Richard Osborne didn't want to topple Klemperer from his place on the altar, but he declared that Wand's Bruckner Sixth was truly great.

Except for its slow movement, this 1999 recording of Bruckner's Sixth Symphony with Günter Wand leading the Münchner Philharmoniker is a huge disappointment. Wand's earlier set of recordings with Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra was highly regarded for its polish, dedication, and integrity, but all this recording has going for it is polish. Wand elicits refined playing from the Munich musicians, and he applies it with care and intelligence to Bruckner's Sixth.
Anton Bruckner : Symphony No. 6 In A Major. Conductor – Günter Wand. Orchestra – NDR Sinfonieorchester. Schleswig-Holsteim Musik Festival 1996 Recorded live at the Muzik- und Kongreshalle, Lübeck, 7 july 1996.
Symphony No. 6 in A major (WAB 106) by Austrian composer Anton Bruckner (1824–1896) is a work in four movements composed between September 24, 1879 and September 3, 1881 and dedicated to his landlord, Dr. Anton van Ölzelt-Newin. Though it possesses many characteristic features of a Bruckner symphony, it differs the most from the rest of his symphonic repertory.
The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester (NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra) is a German radio orchestra based in Hamburg.
