Mark Bebbington talks to Presto's David Smith about Bliss's piano music here. This is the second volume in Mark Bebbington's traversal of the solo piano music of Sir Arthur Bliss, recorded in Symphony Hall, Birmingham. Bliss was Master of the Queen's Music from 1953 until his death in 1975 and made a greatly significant contribution to British music throughout his life. He composed music for over 60 years, and amongst his widely-admired output is his contribution to music for the piano.

Mark Bebbington, piano. Volume One of the first ever complete recording of the solo piano music by Sir Arthur Bliss, and includes world premiere recordings of many of Bliss’s early piano works. Volume 2 will be released at the end of the year.

Arthur (Drummond) Bliss Composer. Mark Bebbington (pf). Arthur (Drummond) Bliss Composer. It is in the Piano Sonata of 1952 that one finds Bliss spreading his wings a great deal more in three substantial movements, fast-slow-fast, though curiously what is evidently a misprint lists the middle movement as Allegro sereno (Bliss himself describes it as ‘slow and serene’). It comes in variation form, where the first movement starts with a waltz leading to a gently lyrical second subject. The vigorous finale is the most brilliant movement technically, a test for any pianist.

English pianist Mark Bebbington will present You Don’t Have to Be Jewish," a concert about Jewish musicians and the Jewish influence. The concert will present the world premiere of four lost works by pianist Harriet Cohen. George Gerswhin's songbook as well as works by Debussy, Arthur Bliss and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco will also be presented. Bebbington is known for bringing lost or forgotten pieces to the spotlight, having premiered the Vaughan Williams Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra, a complete John Ireland CD cycle, and the piano music of Castelnuovo-Tadesco. Next will be Cohen, one of the most important musical figures of the 20th century. The often-omitted pianist was a force, with almost all British composers writing or arranging for her.

The Complete Album Collection Vol. One is a forty-seven disc box set released on November 4, 2013 by Bob Dylan.

Leslie Howard’s recordings of Liszt’s complete piano music, on 99 CDs, is one of the monumental achievements in the history of recorded music More. This album is one of the supreme rewards of Howard's Liszt traversal. Sound is transparently immediate, and the artist's annotations guide one surely.
